The Pit Orchestra accompanies the Lakota East Thunderhawk Theatre Drama Club for its annual spring musical. The band director extends invitations to Symphonic Winds members to participate in Pit Orchestra. The instrumentation and musical numbers vary each year based on the selection of the spring musical. Several rehearsals take place after school in the weeks before the musical and selected musicians must be available for every performance.

All-State Orchestra, All-State Concert Band and All-State Jazz Ensemble
The All-State Orchestra, All-State Concert Band and All-State Jazz Ensemble selections are by recorded auditions submitted by music students from across Ohio. Audition requirements are available March 1 and recorded selections should be submitted by the May 31 deadline for consideration for the next school year. Students will be notified of their selection by August 31. The All-State Concert Band and All-State Orchestra rehearse and perform as part of the OMEA Conference, held every year in late January or early February. The location of the conference rotates between Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. Please find more information at OMEA under “All-State Audition Info.”
OMEA District 13 Honor Concert Bands
Each December, band students may audition for OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) District 13 Honor Bands. Auditions are in early December. Students are selected to participate in three bands: Ninth Grade Honor Band, Symphonic Winds (grades 10-12), and Wind Symphony (grades 10-12). The Honor Bands meet one evening in January for a read-through of the concert music, convene again on a Friday evening for rehearsal, meet the following Saturday for rehearsal, and perform a concert on Sunday afternoon. A guest conductor, usually from a college or university band program, directs each of the Honor Concert Bands.

OMEA District 13 Solo and Ensemble
Solo and Ensemble is an OMEA-adjudicated event in which students may play individually or in small groups. Soloists ordinarily play with a piano accompanist. Ensembles usually number from two to five players, but are sometimes larger. Examples of Solo and Ensemble ensembles that could perform would be a trumpet trio, a flute quartet, a woodwind quintet or a brass quintet. Symphonic Winds band students are required to perform a solo at Solo and Ensemble, but music students from all bands are eligible and encouraged to participate.
