Lakota East High School Band Course Description

2 semesters / 1 credit / Fee Required

Band is open to all instrumentalists grades 9-12. The band class will reinforce, further develop and refine the fundamentals of music through playing an instrument in a large group setting while performing a variety of band literature at a appropriate level for the music students’ abilities. Performances outside of school hours are a part of this course, attendance is mandatory and part of the course grade.

Prerequisite: Audition/Approval of Instructor

Symphonic Winds features the finest musicians in the Lakota East Band Program, populated by Lakota East High School Main Campus students upon audition. Symphonic Winds meets both semesters, preparing the finest wind literature and continuing the development of refined, professional musical skills. Symphonic Winds performs four school concerts a year, participates in (Ohio Music Education Association) OMEA-adjudicated events, as well as outside musical opportunities when they present themselves. Symphonic Winds has performed at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Conventions and Dixie Classic Festival.

The Freshman Concert Bands will perform four concerts during the school year and participate in (Ohio Music Education Association) OMEA-adjudicated events.
